Using Modelling To Help Grow Your Business

Have you ever considered modelling?

Well, me neither to be honest with you but there is another type of modelling that you probably ought to be utilising for your business, and that’s modelling those entrepreneurs who a) are successful and b) you like what they do.

And I do mean modelling, not copying.

What I mean by modelling is to look at what they’re doing and see what you can utilise for your business — or what you can model for your business.

I don’t want you to copy what they do because that is wrong, immoral and unfair!

However, if there are aspects of their business and their marketing that you think would work well for your business, then that’s what you can model.

For instance, let’s say you follow an influencer on Instagram and you notice that their grid looks amazing. Study why you like it and what they do. Then take the lessons or principals of that amazing looking grid and apply it to your business in the way that suits you and your brand best.

What about adverts? Pay attention to the ads that you respond to…how are they laid out, what graphics they use, what kind of colours and length of copy. Pay attention and write down the winning elements and that’s what you can use in your advertising too.

Top Tip: Go to a business Facebook page, scroll down the page and on the left-hand side is a box entitled “Page Transparency”. Click on that and you can see whether that page advertises or not, and if they do you can have a look at the type of ads they produce. If an ad has been running a long time, you can be pretty certain that it’s a successful ad so it’s worth paying attention to the elements of it.

Again, you’re not copying here, rather noticing what you are attracted to and how you respond: if you respond positively then it’s likely that others will be responding in the same way, so you need to pay attention to that.

To get you started, some other areas that you could model are:

  • Types and styles of social media posts from entrepreneurs with large followings;
  • Video styles;
  • Video reels on IG — produced fresh for a reel or is it a 15” section taken from an existing video?
  • Marketing funnels;
  • Podcast intros / style of delivery
  • Podcast art and episode art
  • Email sequences

So to finish off then, modelling is definitely something to utilise in your marketing. Lots of little tweaks based on what you’ve noticed working with other entrepreneurs, will make a huge difference to the success of your marketing.

I teach all aspects of marketing to coaches, consultants, course creators and B2B professional service providers (not to mention those hard working crafters) — so that they can go on to be recognised as a leader in their field and enjoy both financial freedom and the freedom to spend time with their family and on the things that they love doing.

I offer real world, practical and fun tuition pulled from my 31 years experience as a professional marketer both in the corporate world with ‘household name’ clients and through helping my clients in the small business world build six and seven figure businesses.
